Drug Free Workplace Program
Employers making a commitment to drug testing and employee assistance programs could be eligible for BWC discounts of 10%, 15% or 20% off workers’ compensation premiums. Qualifying participants may also be eligible for a grant from the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) (up to $10,000) for implementation costs associated with staff education, policy development and legal review. The discount level provided is determined by the BWC, based on the program that has been established by the employer.

Regional Training Sessions Available
Employee Awareness Education: This course provides employees with information on:
· The disease model for alcohol and other drugs
· Signs and symptoms of substance use/misuse
· Effects of commonly used drugs and how they can impact the workplace
Role of the Supervisor (1st Year Participants): Managers and supervisors are the foundation of a successful drug-free workplace program. Upon completion of the initial course, attendees will:
· Be comfortable addressing the company’s substance abuse policy/procedures
· Be able to recognize the signs and symptoms of substance use/abuse
· Be able to initiate reasonable suspicion testing
Role of the Supervisor Refresher: During this class, managers and supervisors will receive updated information on:
· How to recognize signs of possible drug and alcohol abuse
· How to document behaviors that may be signs of alcohol/drug problems
· How to review appropriate steps for confronting an employee
· How to initiate reasonable suspicion testing
· How to make appropriate referrals for assessment and assistance
Train the Trainer for Employee Education: This program enables employers to train their own employees on drug and alcohol awareness education. Sheakley consultants will work with you to determine which manner of training works best and is most cost-effective for your organization. With possible opportunities for BWC safety grant monies, having your own trainer may be the most convenient and economical way to ensure that all employees covered by your policy meet annual training requirements.
