Lighthouse Youth and Family Services (Lighthouse) has a goal to eliminate youth homelessness in Cincinnati by 2020. They got a little closer to that goal with the ribbon cutting ceremony at the new Sheakley Center for youth on December 21.

Larry and Rhonda Sheakley were present, along with Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley, and other dignitaries, for the ceremony opening the converted industrial building, serving as a housing and learning center for homeless youths. At the tallest point, the building features a light that shines 24/7, representing a beacon of hope.

The new Sheakley Center for Youth consists of 36 shelter bedrooms, 39 apartments, a day resource center, teaching kitchen, health care and laundry facilities. The center will have teams of experts in mental health and substance abuse, ready to assist residents at any time. The residents have access to health care, job training, assistance in finding jobs, self-sufficiency training, and life skills training.

The Sheakley’s are long-time supporters of Lighthouse Youth and Family Services, as Rhonda has volunteered with Lighthouse in Years past.

We are excited to support Lighthouse as they continue to move towards their goal of ending youth homelessness by 2020. Sheakley believes in the mission of Lighthouse and is proud to be partners with them. We are excited to see how this new center will impact the lives of many in the community, and we wish Lighthouse a successful year!
